There are several types of hearing aids currently on the market: box type, behind-the-ear type, in-ear type and ear canal type.
1) Box-type hearing aids are also called pocket-type or pocket-type, which are slightly larger than matchboxes. The body and earphones are connected by wires. When in use, the earphones are inserted in the external ear canal and the box is placed in the chest pocket. Its advantages are less interference, higher power, convenient use, easy adjustment, long use time, lower price, and can meet the needs of people with severe deafness. However, this kind of hearing aid box will produce friction sound when placed in the pocket, which affects the language discrimination, and is very conspicuous when worn, so it sometimes feels inconvenient.
2) Behind-the-ear hearing aids are 3 to 4 cm long and have a hook shape. They are placed behind the ears, and the sound is sent into the ear canal through a horn-shaped ear hook and a plastic tube. It has the advantages of no wires, small size, more concealment, and less interference. It can be installed with induction coils to increase the function of listening to the phone. The disadvantage is that an ear mold needs to be specially prepared, which is not very accustomed to the initial use and adjustment is not convenient.
3) In-ear and ear canal hearing aids are small hearing aids. They have the advantages of small size, concealment, no wires, no need to make additional ear molds, good listening effects, and improved hearing ability; however, they are inconvenient to adjust and expensive. Human ear canal and concha cavity are customized. Due to its low power, it is only suitable for moderate deafness, and not suitable for severe and extremely deaf people.
When choosing a hearing aid, it is best to go to the hospital to do a comprehensive hearing check, use electrical audiometry and other instruments to accurately evaluate the degree of deafness, and then choose a hearing aid. If there is no hospital with corresponding conditions, the degree of hearing loss and the power of the hearing aid are selected. The matching can be estimated by oral test. For example, people who cannot hear whispers have a hearing loss of 30 to 40 decibels, and those who cannot hear a low sound have a hearing loss of about 40 to 50 decibels. At this time, it is advisable to buy low-power and medium-power hearing aids; people who cannot hear ordinary speech can hear The loss is about 50 to 60 decibels. People who cannot hear loud speech have a hearing loss of 60 to 70 decibels. Medium-power and high-power hearing aids can be selected. People who cannot hear loud shouts have a hearing loss of 70 to 80 decibels. Medium and high-power hearing aids; the hearing loss of people who cannot hear the full shouting is about 80-90 decibels or higher. High-power and extra-high-power hearing aids are optional.
